Julie Esther Fisher

Giving a fiction writer and poet a website that feels like her.

Julie Esther Fisher had two books coming out and a website that needed to feel more like her. We built a brand foundation and a new site that gives her stories and poems room to breathe.

Giving a fiction writer and poet a website that feels like her.
THE PROJECT

Two books, one home online.

Soosh 1

Julie Esther Fisher writes fiction and poetry. Her novel in stories, A Pearl Is Just an Accident, and her poetry collection, On the Lip of Night, were both coming out, and she wanted one place that held them together. Bliss & Tell built that place, starting with who she is as a writer and ending with a website that feels like her.

THE CHALLENGE

Make the website feel like her.

Soosh 1
Two books in two different forms had to sit side by side without competing for attention. Her old site was built on a template, and it did not feel like her writing or her personality. She wanted a site that felt like her voice: quiet, observant and rooted in memory and place.
HER OWN WORDS

Starting with the writer, not the layout.

This was not a full brand identity project. Instead, we listened to how Julie describes herself and her work, and let her own words shape the site. Her work keeps returning to memory, family, landscape, grief and hope, so those themes gave every design choice a thread to follow.

THE WEBSITE

A home for the books, the writing and the work around them.

The homepage opens with a short statement about looking and listening closely, then introduces each book with its own feature and quotes from reviews. Each title has its own page with reviews and praise. The Archive collects her stories and poems from many years in one place, and a Media & Events page keeps readings and appearances easy to find. Headlines are set in lowercase with italic and bold emphasis, which gives the site an editorial feel that matches the writing. The site is built on WordPress, so Julie can update it herself as her work grows.

WHY IT WORKS FOR AUTHORS

A site that gives readers somewhere to go.

Soosh 1

A good author website does a few things well. It introduces the writer, gives each book its own page, and shows readers what to explore next. Julie’s site does that with books, an archive, events and a clear way to get in touch, all in a look that sounds like her.
